Explorers project

The children in Ms. Fannin's class are currently working on group projects about explorers. Each group has 4 children and they are aware of which explorer they have chosen to work on. There is class time allocated to completing project work and all of the groups will get the opportunity to present their projects to the rest of the class on the 3rd of February.

The children have been asked to carry out a short piece of research on their chosen explorer before Wednesday so that during class time they have some information to share with the rest of the group. This may be in the form of a printed sheet, a piece of writing, some facts, a map, a picture or any other medium they feel will add to their project.

Thank you,
Ms. O'Neill & Ms. O'Sullivan

Tuesday basketball

There is basketball after school every Tuesday for 2nd class boys.

Spelling groups

As you may be aware the teachers of the SWST spelling groups have changed. This is to give the boys a fresh start with another teacher and to give them a little reshuffle that will hopefully inject a new and improved attitude towards their spellings.

The boys are doing very well and are showing encouraging signs of improved spellings with regard to their test results and work in their English copies.

Keep up the great work!!

Visiting the Library

As mentioned at the beginning of the year, all boys need to have their library card in their school bags. This is so we can go to the library as frequently as possible and the boys will always be ready to borrow or return books. Due to changing constraints of the school day and of course the ever unpredictable weather, we must be prepared to go when we can.

Please remember you can check online if books are overdue and renew to avoid fines.

If your son has misplaced his library card please try and replace it as soon as possible.

Playing shop

We are learning about money in maths. In second class, we should be able to recognise, exchange and use coins up to the value of €2.

There is no better way to learn about money than using a hands-on approach. We will be having a role play 'shopping day' tomorrow in school.

We are asking the boys to bring in items for the shop and stick price tags on the items for any amount less than €2. Fake, play money will be provided!

Examples of these items can be empty milk or juice cartons, a tin of beans, a toy, a book, a comic etc.... and will be returned to you by the end of the day!

Thanks for your co-operation!!

Following patterns and improving motor skills!

We have started using Maths activity stations to improve our motor skills and spatial awareness. These hands-on materials will help the boys to investigate, recognise and describe the properties of lines, angles, 2D and 3D shapes. It will also help them to develop the skills and processes needed in problem solving. Of course, it's great fun too!! Have a look at some of the photos below...
